In this scene Kim is convincing the media why Bonnie should not be captain of the squad, and this is her speech in its entireity:
How can you believe in such false things about cheerleaders? Are you supposed to think that occurs in TV and movies happens in real life? Cheerleading is not getting about the hottest jock or about being superior to others on some stupid social scale.
It's about supporting each other and supporting the community of Middleton as a whole! Something that Bonnie Rockwaller completely lacks!
How can Bonnie captain a good cheer squad if she....and the rest of the cheerleaders....are earning bad grades and bullying
the other students? The cheer captain must be dependale, cooperative, motivated, and most importantly, responsible for
the rest of her squadmates! She must also possess the smarts to know some of the more complex cheer moves!
These vital components are nowhere to be found in someone like Bonnie! In fact, she doesn't even know what being a true leader
means!
Both the cheer team and captain serve as a representative of the school and, by definition, the entire town! The sorry grades
and bullying encouraged by the captain is one of the deepest failures for not just the school district, but by the city as a a whole!
Cheerleaders, in fact, should not be feared as a bunch of bullies and snobs, but they should be viewed as athletes, nice people and as regular
students. They should just be held to a higher standard.
The cheerleaders here at Middleton High don't grow up to be Peepers waitresses who have to serve buffalo wings during the big game! They grow up
to be district attorneys, real estate agents, mayors, and, in one case, a brain surgeon!
It is not on the outside or personal looks that matter, but it's on the inside! It is how pure
your heart is! The hard hours you put in to practice, the successes, failures, service to community, and the commitments and bonds you
share with the squad are all more important than submitting to overused Hollywood stereotypes!
It takes some who has a lot of grit, moxie, and determination to be cheer captain. It takes someone who likes to see good examples
to her team-mates and classmates! Because of all the above examples, it is my firm belief that Bonnie, the so-called 'perfect' cheerleader,
should be stripped of her captainship of the squad!
