When someone tells you to unwatch/unfollow them because you did something that looks wrong in their eyes or had an argument with that person (or their friends), aren't they basically infringing your freedom of choice? In my opinion when it comes to the social networking sites like dA or Facebook, you should be able to watch whoever you want to, and if the person you watch has any problems with that then they can just block you - you shouldn't be told to unwatch/unfollow someone just because they have "problems" with you watching/following them.
What is your opinion on this matter?

Btw I used the word "following" because on Facebook or Twitter it has the same meaning as "watching" has on dA.

It feels like it would go on a case-by-case basis. Why no blocking, I don't know. That seems like the better response.
The only real reason I can see why not to block is afraid of offending the other people that follow or are friends with you ('you' as in referring to the person being asked, using this pronoun for simplicity's sake) somehow. Maybe it's an RP group and you're throwing off the story enough for the DM to ask them to leave. I don't know. But you should try to mend fences by discussing things privately on what happened and if there's some compromise to be made.
Of course, this is assuming that the person asking isn't an ass. If they are, like they want you to not follow or post because you won't agree that you would totes eat a baby if it was the two of you on a deserted island or if it's something you can't control (personal issues?), drop 'em. Your time is far more better used on other people and things than wasting it on a jerkoff.
If it was me, I would respect their wishes. Then again, I'm a pushover when it comes to making other people happy and comfortable so I'm not the best measure...

Since it's still your choice whether or not to unwatch/unfollow they're not actually doing anything regarding that freedom, they're just expressing their opinion as to what you should choose with said freedom.
"Please voluntarily do X so I don't have to do Y which would have the same effect," is a bit odd to to me, that said at least some of the platforms mentioned do in fact have differences between "not-following" and "blocked".
On twitter if you aren't following someone they can still show up in your newsfeed (say, if they're talking about you) however if the person has blocked you they cannot. Thus asking someone voluntarily unfollow is suggesting an action that's short of blocking.
So, yeah... Not infringing on your freedom of choice, but yes asking you to do something instead of them doing something, but depending on the platform there might be a meaningful difference.
A bit tangled.
